Instagram copies OnlyFans: This is now changing for users

Instagram has launched its announced subscription model. Much like platforms like OnlyFans, users are asked to pay if they want to see certain content. An exclusive chat with creators is also possible if paid for.

Instagram introduces paid chats

As the operator of Instagram, Meta has long been working on functions that normal users of the platform are denied. Now the subscription model announced at the beginning of the year has been launched, in which creators can determine how much money they want from users for exclusive content to get. A chat function is also part of the package, as has now become known.

Both “Subscriber Chat” is about exclusive direct messages to the respective creator. According to Instagram, up to 30 people can participate in a chat. Creators get the ability to draw attention to the chat through special stickers in Stories. Instagram does not set the prices for subscriptions itself, but leaves that to the creators.

The subscription also includes additional content such as reels and posts, which are only shown to paying users. There is also a “Subscriber Home” where all paid content is presented in one place (source: Meta).

Buying followers on Instagram is not a good idea:

According to Instagram’s Adam Mosseri, creators are “ultimately businesses” who want to make money as well. Subscriptions from users could result in a stable and steady cash flow. According to the official announcement, Instagram itself would like to waive subscription fees by the end of 2024. So creators get 100 percent of the revenue generated.

Instagram: Subscriptions not yet available everywhere

Even if the rollout of the new subscription function has already started, it is still there at the beginning not everywhere in the world to disposal. The platform did not explain which countries are included right from the start.
