Instagram encourages teenagers to go to bed earlier with this new feature

A good night’s rest is what Meta wants for its youngest users. Via the web page: “Giving teens and parents more ways to manage their time on our apps”, Mark Zuckerberg’s group specifically announced the addition of “nocturnal messages” encouraging teenagers to get off Instagram in the evening.

In detail, we learn that the messages will appear when teenagers spend more than 10 minutes on Instagram late at night, whether to watch Reels or send DMs. “They remind teens it’s late and encourage them to close the app”, explains Meta.

Having contacted Meta, TechCrunch was treated to some additional information about these new nightly messages. The media relays that they will be sent after 10 p.m., and that their display cannot be deactivated in Instagram settings.

Just like other incentive messages from the social network, adolescents will be able to ignore them in order to continue using the platform.
