Instagram intends to fight against the sending of unsolicited dick pics

By way of introduction, remember that you should not send photos of your anatomy if you have not agreed to do so with the recipient. However, since the scourge of sending such photos cannot find a solution based on the common sense of the protagonists, States and platforms are trying in their own way to stem the phenomenon. Instagram is working on a way to protect users from receiving these images in their inbox. Meta has confirmed to our colleagues to The Verge that the feature was under development.

The feature, dubbed Nudity protection, was first spotted by developer Alessandro Paluzzi. The screenshot he shares indicates that “mobile technology masks photos that may contain nudity” and “Instagram can’t access these images”. However, the user can choose to see them. A function derived from the one used to automatically filter direct messages containing offensive content.

“We are working closely with experts to ensure that these new features preserve people’s privacy, while giving them control over the messages they receive”, said Meta spokeswoman Liz Fernandez. More information will be shared by the company in the coming weeks, while a test phase is likely already on the way.

In Great Britain, the authorities have also taken up the subject and passed a new offense of “cyberflashing”, corresponding to the fact of sending photos of your genitals without consent to someone.
