Instagram wants to block unwanted DMs (and it’s not too soon!)

You can no longer receive unwanted private messages on instagram ? Good news !

Indeed, Meta will impose new restrictions on “DM”, which should significantly reduce spam and other unwanted content.

The end of unwanted DMs on Instagram?

Like you, Meta is tired of seeing Instagram users’ inboxes filled with spam and other unwanted messages. Also, the social network is deploying a new strategy concerning the precious private messages (or DM).

Among the restrictions put in place, Meta will notably limit senders to a single message, if the recipient does not follow them. The recipient of a DM will then have to accept the chat request before the other party can send anything else to them. Well seen !

But that’s not all ! Not only Meta has implemented (since last year already) a system to limit unwanted interactions, but Instagram now allows better filtering of unwanted media.

Indeed, requests by private messages are now limited to text only. It is therefore impossible to send photos, videos or even voice messages.

Instagram thus explains that it wants to introduce an additional security measure, in particular for women. To the magazine TechCrunchMeta reported that women frequently receive unsolicited photos (including “nudes”) in their private messaging.

This new measure thus aims to (finally!) put an end to this practice, even if it will not prevent stalkers from sending messages in more or less strong language. Remember that over the coming months, Instagram will integrate more and more features boosted with artificial intelligence.
