Another Android app breaks an important download barrier. After the “Google One” app only cracked the 100 million mark a year ago, it can now look forward to the next breakthrough.
In November 2020, the Android app “Google One” celebrated 100 million downloads. Now this milestone looks almost like a number from the far past. Because the Android app is currently celebrating the 500 millionth download to a device (via “Android Police”). This cannot be converted directly into active subscribers to the service, but it is a handsome figure for the app.
“Google One” is a subscription service that offers online storage. In principle, users receive 15 GB of storage free of charge; those who want more have to pay monthly or annually. Google offers around 100 GB of storage for 1.99 euros a month or two TB for 9.99 euros a month.

The rapid increase in the number of downloads is surprising at first glance. However, behind this is the limitation of another app. In June 2021, for example, Google stopped the “free” upload of images in the “Google Photos” app. In this case, free means that they have not yet been counted towards the free online storage. The 15 GB remained unaffected by the upload of images.
Since that has changed, some users are likely to struggle with memory shortages. Accordingly, the Google One service became more and more attractive. Because as soon as there is no more memory available, no more images can be saved.
