Fujifilm continues to diversify into the instant camera market. The Instax mini Evo is a compendium of several machines, because in addition to its primary function, it also serves as a classic APN and portable printer.

How the pricing table works

Often, instant devices follow and resemble each other. Sometimes, some bring a little more and stand out quite easily. We bet that will be the case with the new Instax mini Evo. Last born of the range at Fujifilm, it is for the Japanese firm of a “hybrid” device, in the first sense of the term. Indeed, if we are first in the presence of an instantaneous device with all the necessary paper to reload and rapid development, it is not without surprise.

A hybrid device

On closer inspection, some details surprise. The mini Evo does not have a tunnel sight, but is equipped with a small LCD screen. Indeed, like the Polaroid Snap Touch or the Instax Square SQ10, this newcomer, although instantaneous, adopts more or less the same operation as a traditional digital camera (APN). You turn it on, then point and frame using the screen, and the shot prints. There is no doubt that this kind of product will lead to valuable film savings.

Moreover, it can be used as a portable printer. All you have to do is connect via a smartphone app. It will also be possible to control the device from your phone and even transfer photos taken with the mini Evo. This one sports a slightly different look from its peers. While the Instax are often rather round, the more square design here is inspired by the mirrorless cameras of the brand – we think in particular of the X-E4.

Price and availability

The Fujifilm Instax mini Evo will be available from December 3, 2021 in Japan and should not leave the archipelago before the beginning of 2022. In the United States, it is expected in February and will then be marketed at a price of $200.
