Instead of displays – the new head-up display spans the entire width

Initially smiled at and described as unnecessary, the head-up display has long since established itself in modern cars – it is a real support for the driver. Supplier Continental is now going one step further and mirrors the displays across the entire width of the windshield.

Depending on the manufacturer, different sized areas of the windscreen are used, and the content can often even be personalised. This is particularly important if someone feels distracted by a navigation map displayed over a large area. Continental’s new head-up display is not supposed to fill the entire surface of the windscreen – that would be more irritating than useful. Instead, it extends across the entire width of the disc in the lower area. To do this, several screens located under the instrument panel are connected to one another. Unlike previous head-up displays, the so-called Scenic View HUD does not project the display onto the transparent area of the windshield, but reflects the information that is important for the driver with a particularly high light intensity specially coated, black printed area at the lower edge of the windshield. This creates a razor-sharp image over the entire width. Continental promises excellent visibility in all lighting conditions and thus on the one hand the intuitive view of a head-up display with the razor-sharp image quality of a classic screen.Nevertheless, the displays are practically superimposed on the field of vision of the road. They are clearly visible to all vehicle occupants, even with polarized sunglasses, and can therefore replace the speedometer display and passenger display. The market launch is planned for 2026.
