Intel Alder Lake: Core i3-12100 outperforms Ryzen 5 3600 in new benchmark

New performance for the Intel Core i3-12100: after standing out against the Ryzen 3 3300X from AMD, this time it is ahead of the Ryzen 5 3600, a much more recent processor. Although it does not benefit from the same technical sheet as its counterparts, the Core i5 and i7, the CPU is nonetheless a choice option for gaming in the entry-level category.

On November 4, Intel unveiled its long-awaited 12th generation of processors, dubbed Alder Lake. We had to wait before seeing the first benchmarks appear, but it was worth being patient. Indeed, we reported to you at the beginning of December that the Core i3-12100 is well illustrated in front of the Ryzen 3 3300X, thus promising great things for the future. Either, could you say to yourself, but is it the weight against more current CPUs?

The answer, provided by our colleagues at Art of PC, is yes. In a new benchmark, the Core i3-12100 confirms its position as leader in entry level. This time against the Ryzen 5 3600, the processor renews the performance. On average, it displays a frame rate 7.85% higher than that of its rival on many demanding games, from Cyberpunk 2077 to Forza Horizon 5.

Intel Core i3-12100 shakes AMD

It’s only a short step from there to establishing it as the best entry-level gaming processor of 2022. Especially since these results are relatively surprising given the a priori disadvantageous architecture of the Core i3-12100. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3600 has 2 cores as well as 4 additional threads. With its 4 Golden Cove cores and 8 threads, it also lacks the E-cores that equip the Core i5 and i7.

But obviously, that does not prevent him from shine in tests, a result that he owes in particular to his good multitasking results. One thing is certain, AMD has no other choice to fight back. Before the release of Alder Lake, the Core i5-12600K had already shown the extent of its capabilities by crushing the Ryzen 5 5600X. A threat to the competition which will become increasingly severe, with the imminent arrival of the Core i9-12900KS, capable of reaching a boost frequency of 5.5 Ghz.
