Intel Alder Lake: Core i9-12900KS is coming soon, its boost frequency reaches 5.5 GHz

Intel has just teaser on Twitter the arrival of a new processor of 12e Alder Lake generation even more powerful than current models. This new reference will benefit in particular from a boost frequency of 5.5 GHz.

Intel formalized its new 12th generation Alder Lake Core at the end of last year. We found in particular the high-end Intel Core i9-12900K chip which turned out to be a real power monster which had even managed to overtake the Ryzen 9 5950X in the game. Intel does not seem to want to stop there, since the American giant already foresees the arrival of a new even more powerful reference.

On Twitter, Intel shared a screenshot of a tab in HWiNFO64 on which we can see a processor with 16 cores and a boost frequency of 5.5 GHz on one of the cores. In comparison, the Core i9-12900K only reaches 5.2 GHz in boost. Overclockers had nevertheless managed to bring the chip to 6.8 GHz under liquid nitrogen.

A new, even more powerful Core i9-12900KS?

According to information communicated by Intel, the American giant would prepare the arrival of a new chip based on the current Core i9-12900K, and it would probably be a Core i9-12900KS. The “S” stands for Special Edition, and the latest was the 2019 Core i9-9900KS.

The new Intel Core i9-12900KS should take most of the features of the Core i9-12900K, including 8 Golden Cove cores and 8 Gracemont cores for a total of 16 cores and 24 threads. With boost frequencies of 5.5 GHz against 5.2 GHz for the classic version, we expect this new reference to see its energy consumption explode. It is not impossible that the TDP of 125 W or the Maximum Turbo Power of 241 W are revised upwards.

Alder Lake chip will be compatible with the new LGA1700 socket, but motherboards will likely need to be updated to accommodate the Core i9-12900KS. For now, it is not known exactly when Intel plans to lift the veil on this new chip, but the American giant could unveil it as early as the first quarter of this year.
