Instead, Intel will divide its consumer components into three categories: Intel, Intel Core, and Intel Core Ultra.

According to studies conducted by the company, users had a hard time associating Intel with their processors. The mention of the terms i5 or i7, for example, did not trigger a rapprochement with Intel among a majority of people, unless they added “Core”.
It’s the “i” that toasts
The big change made here is above all the disappearance of the “i” in front of the numbers, which allowed us to shorten the name of the processors. If we could talk about i5 before, it will be difficult to talk about a 5 processor now while remaining understandable.
From now on, Intel’s CPUs are therefore categorized into three classifications: Intel, Intel Core and Intel Core Ultra, each of which is further divided by numbers: 3, 5, 7 and 9, as before. . But not all combinations will exist. There will be no Ultra 3 or Intel 9 for example, so as not to confuse consumers. Ultra indeed refers to top of the range and 3 to basic performance. The association of the two would therefore be strange.
Intel has provided The Verge hypothetical names of processors that can respect this new nomenclature: Intel Core Ultra 9 1090H, Intel Core Ultra 7 1070K, Intel Core 5 1050U. In the end, it will only take a little practice to master and understand these names.
