Mini-PCs yet endowed with many qualities, but that Intel no longer wishes to support. Too expensive as a segment?

Here’s one we didn’t see coming. Without warning, Intel has therefore decided to completely review its guidelines and no longer take care of the Next Unit of Compute range, better known as NUC.

Withdrawal effective immediately

Initiated in 2013 by Intel, the concept of Next Unit of Compute was in fact nothing really new and various manufacturers such as Shuttle had already put miniature PCs on the market.

Given Intel’s weight in the PC world, the American company’s approach had the advantage of giving body to this segment of mini-PCs which was struggling to really take off. NUCs were therefore quickly seen as a way for Intel to take some control of this segment and make it evolve in the directions desired by the group.

The ace ! Intel therefore seems to no longer find its way around and has just announced, taking everyone by surprise, its immediate withdrawal from the sector.

No more new NUC, but the follow-up assured

Just yesterday, Intel confirmed to many of its partners that it would not continue to invest in the end-of-life NUC segment – at least at Intel – immediately. No new model will therefore see the light of day in the near future, but Intel has however confirmed that customer service and monitoring of products sold will always be provided.

While Intel has confirmed that this end of activity on the NUCs will have no impact on the other branches of the group, the question arises as to whether Intel has simply unplugged its NUC unit or if this is part of a sale. to a potentially interested partner.
