At the heart of our graphics cards, GPUs are designed by NVIDIA and AMD… plus a new kid on the block.

As usual, the Germans of 3DCenter establish an accurate ranking of dedicated GPU vendors. The opportunity of course to take stock of who is progressing and who is regressing in a market shared between only two players… Unless?

A tiny percent

No need to prolong a suspense that we had fanned from the title of this news. Statistics published by Jon Peddie Research and compiled by 3DCenter actually reveal a newcomer, a third thief, in the “person” of Intel.

While we are still waiting to get our hands on an Arc Alchemist card model, sales of certain models have started in certain countries at a certain price. Admittedly, this does not yet concern Europe, but it is enough to make the manufacturer appear in the ranking.

As you can imagine, Intel can still only occupy third place, far, far behind AMD and NVIDIA. It is even fairly clear that the figure of “about 1%” has been rounded off by the statisticians.

Sharp decline in GPU market

Very far ahead therefore, we find AMD in its eternal second place. The firm marks a fairly notable regression between the first and second quarters of 2022: it actually goes from 24 to 20% market share.

Inevitably, if AMD is losing market share and Intel is making a timid entry into the rankings, it’s because NVIDIA is once again carving out the lion’s share. Indeed, 79.6% of GPUs sold during the second quarter of 2022 belong to the large GeForce family.

We must emphasize that this ranking is part of a downward trending market. We have already mentioned it at Clubic, but after an abnormally prosperous period, the landing is brutal. While it sold 13.38 million GPUs during the first quarter, it is no longer a question of “only” 10.4 million pieces during the following quarter.
