A withdrawal from the market Graphic card dedicated immediately denied by one of Intel’s officials.

While we are still waiting to see the first Arc A580, A750 and A770 graphics cards at resellers, a rumor is becoming more and more insistent, that of Intel’s withdrawal from the dedicated graphics card market as soon as ‘next year.

Performance far below expectations

Relayed by several media, the rumor was born in particular from a video published by Moore’s Law is Dead. On his YouTube channel, the informant could not be clearer: Intel will stop its dedicated GPU activity shortly after the release of its second generation, Battlemage.

Remember, we are in August 2021 and Intel is pulling out heavy artillery to formalize its return to the dedicated graphics card market. The manufacturer announces four generations which will follow one another from 2022: Alchemist, Battlemage, Celestial and, finally, Druid.

Today, Moore’s Law is Dead is very pessimistic. He specifies that the decision would already be taken at Intel and advances two explanations: the cost would be much higher than expected and, above all, the performance would not be in line with the objectives.

Intel denies in stride

Still according to our informant, supported by a few other sources such as Anthony Garreffa of TweakTownthe release of the Alchemist cards should be done, but from the next generation – Battlemage – Intel will reduce the sails by focusing on the entry/mid-range.

Subsequently, it could be that the work carried out in the field of the GPU is used on other products. We then imagine Intel focusing on iGPUs associated with its next generations of processors or chips with objectives targeted at the general public.

These rumors have reacted Raja Koduri, one of Intel’s officials. Via Twitter, he clarified that he did not understand these rumours: “ They don’t help the team working hard to bring these GPUs to market. […] Who do they help? We’re only on the first generation and yes, we have more hurdles ahead, but we persist “.
