If Intel left the market SSDits former teams are back in service under the leadership of Solidigm/SK Hynix.

After selling its NAND flash memory business to SK Hynix in 2020, Intel let its SSD division “slip away”, which became an independent entity partner of the South Korean a few months ago, in December 2021.

Well-known SM2269XT controller

Called “Solidigm”, the entity in question has just presented the first SSD distributed in its own name, the Solidigm P41 Plus, whose availability seems to be immediate in capacities of 512 GB, 1 or 2 TB.

On a strictly technical level, the P41 Plus is not a revolution and there is, for example, no question of integrating PCI Express 5.0. The SSD is a classic PCIe 4.0 model based on the SM2269XT controller designed by Silicon Motion, a regular in this type of product.

On the memory side, as we have said, three capacities are planned while the standard design of the SSD is based on the 2280 format. Solidigm indicates however that its OEM partners will be able to benefit from 2230 and 2242 versions. Finally, the 3D NAND chips employ 144 layers.
