Because the gigahertz race still has a bright future ahead of it to sell microprocessor
.

Mentioned by Intel at the very beginning of the year, the Core i9-12900KS processor is a particular version of the spearhead of the Alder Lake range, the Core i9-12900K. To signify it, Intel added the letter ‘S’ to it, which we discovered when a Core i9-9900KS was released a few years ago.

Frequencies on the rise, cost and consumption too!

Designed around the same 8-core Golden Cove / 8-core Gracemont, the newcomer is very close to its little brother, but it is of course the operating frequencies that make it stand out. Compared to the Core i9-12900K, the future Core i9-12900KS marks a progress of 300 MHz in turbo-boost to reach 5.5 GHz.

An increase in frequency which, of course, will affect the performance of the beast, but Intel seems to have to pay a high price. Our colleagues from WCCFTech point out that some resellers have actually advanced prices between 780 and 795 dollars while they charge the Core i9-12900K 630 dollars: an additional cost of 26% which is unlikely to be reflected in performance.

To make matters worse, the Core i9-12900KS should logically see its consumption increase. Still on the sheets of the same retailers, we note that the Processor Base Power (PBP) is 150 Watts when it is “only” 125 W on the Core i9-12900K. Knowing that the latter reached a Maximum Turbo Power (MTP) of 241 W, we can fear the worst for the Core i9-12900KS whose availability should, in any case, be quite limited: it is a “showcase” processor.
