The intensive offender Brian K. (25) is in solitary confinement in the Pöschwies correctional facility. Now he is posting letters from prison on an Instagram account.
“Hey, this is Brian. This is my Instagram channel. Welcome. I’m glad to hear from you.” With these words, Brian, who became a nationally known criminal under the pseudonym Carlos because of his special setting, first reported on Instagram on Monday.
Artist group supports Brian
It is a handwritten note that also reads: “I am sitting here in solitary confinement and have hardly any outside contact. No cell phone, no internet, nothing at all. ” The 25-year-old has been in solitary confinement in the Pöschwies correctional facility for almost two and a half years. He spends 23 hours a day alone in his cell.
How can he then lead the Instagram channel? A group of artists supports the offender. The account is managed by the artist group called «#BigDreams».
According to Brian’s case, they want to “place them in larger social discourses and take a counter-perspective,” as a communication shows.
The description of his account says: “They want me to fall, but I will fly up.”
Instagram profile can no longer be accessed
Another message appears on the account. “You met me as Carlos, but my name is Brian.” But then the offender’s profile can no longer be viewed on the platform. “Unfortunately, this page is not available,” said Instagram.
Brian was recently convicted of attempted aggravated assault by the Zurich Higher Court. This is the most serious of a total of 29 crimes that the intensive offender committed in prison. The prison sentence was increased to six years and four months. (euc)
