- The US Federal Reserve (Fed) is leaving the key interest rate unchanged in the range of 5.25 to 5.50 percent.

- For the fifth time in a row, the US monetary authorities have left the key interest rate untouched.
In the fight against inflation, the monetary authorities have raised interest rates sharply. In March 2022, the key interest rate was between zero and 0.25 percent.
In February, the inflation rate was 3.2 percent, after rising to a good nine percent in 2022. The Fed is aiming for a rate of two percent. However, the US authority continues to expect a slightly higher inflation rate of 2.4 percent for 2024. According to monetary authorities’ estimates, core inflation will be even higher: excluding food and energy prices, inflation of 2.6 percent is expected. This value is of central importance for interest rate decisions.
Nevertheless, the US Federal Reserve appears to be planning three interest rate cuts this year. However, central bankers expect key interest rates to be slightly higher than before for the next two years.
