An application for the controversial sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways causes trouble ahead of the annual general meeting of FC Bayern. The association has not yet decided on admission. “Delaying tactics,” says the applicant and wants to force an injunction – without success.

According to ntv.de information, the Munich District Court has rejected an injunction from a member of FC Bayern Munich in the run-up to the upcoming annual general meeting. The member, Michael Ott, wanted to force the approval of an application for next Thursday. The Mainz-based wanted to submit an application to let the controversial advertising contract between the Bundesliga soccer club and Qatar Airways expire. Ott will now file a complaint against the rejection.

The Mainz trainee lawyer Ott has been a member of the association since 2007. FC Bayern Munich had not responded to the approval of his application despite the deadline being set. In response to a BR request, the association had announced that it had not yet gotten around to examining the application. The announcement was made on November 11th. The other applications received would now be examined. The other side considers this to be a pseudo-argument.

“The decision of the Munich District Court contradicts the constitutional principle of effective legal protection in a way that shakes us,” says Andreas Hüttl, who represents Ott in the matter as a lawyer, to ntv.de: “With this justification, membership rights could be permanently undermined Therefore, it needs to be corrected in the complaints procedure. “

The Munich District Court rejected the application not because of problems with the content, but on the grounds that it anticipated the main issue. The application could also be made at one of the upcoming annual general meetings. However, this also means: FC Bayern could extend the contract with Qatar Airways, which runs until 2023, at any time in advance and let all further applications come to nothing.

Training camp in Qatar since 2011

With the application, which met with broad approval within the Munich fan scene, the supporters want to take “preventive measures” to prevent the conclusion of a new sponsorship contract after the current one expires in 2023. The emirate stands for massive human rights violations, there are also serious allegations of corruption in sport, it said in a message from the critical fans.

Bayern entered into a partnership with Qatar Airways in 2018. The company is 100 percent owned by Qatar. A state with which FC Bayern has had good connections for a long time. The record champions have been traveling to the training camp in Qatar since 2011 and sponsored the desert state’s airport in 2015.

The former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge had recently reacted calmly to the protests of the fans against the partnership with the World Cup host from 2022. The supporters had also carried their displeasure into the stadium. “Bayern Munich has a partnership with Qatar Airways, and I was never a Pharisee, if I may put it that way. We got good money from this contract,” Rummenigge said in an interview with WDR about the contract. which allegedly brings in Bavaria 20 million euros a year. In addition, Rummenigge referred to the great improvements made by the state in terms of human and labor rights. However, a recent Amnesty report only recently noted that this improvement had stagnated.
