Would you like to set up your living room so that no one notices how small the room actually is? No problem with these interior strategies!

In times of housing shortages and rising rents, very few people are blessed with large, airy apartments – especially in big cities. But we can also make ourselves comfortable in small homes – and with a few simple tricks they no longer seem cramped, but cozy and smart. Do you dream of a spacious living room with several areas, but in reality you unfortunately have a rather small room that only has space for a few pieces of furniture? Make your small living room look big with these interior hacks.

5 strategies to decorate a small living room

1. Choose a simple color concept

When you set out to furnish your mini living room, the right color concept can create a good basis. It’s best to choose neutral, light colors for the walls and the large ones Furniture. You should also stay away from too many patterns here. Depending on your taste, you can then work with eye-catchers such as smaller pieces of furniture or accessories such as cushions or vases. It is important that you plan the concept consistently so that you end up with a harmonious color palette. Randomly mixed colors or patterns only make the room appear smaller.

2. Go for small and functional furniture

It’s actually logical, but small furniture is better in small rooms. Instead of a large sofa area, you could opt for a two-seater and an armchair that you can move flexibly. Choose your furniture carefully; it should appear delicate and compact, but at the same time be functional. Sufficient storage space is the be-all and end-all! Tables with drawers or stools where you can store items will help you make the room smart.

3. Use transparency

A brilliant optical trick is transparency. So you could use one or more tables made of plexiglass or with a glass top – the transparent surface makes the room appear more airy.

4. Work with mirrors

Mirrors are a real miracle weapon for small rooms.

Optical tricks, the second: Mirrors are a wonderful tool for making small rooms appear larger. It’s best to place a mirror in a strategic spot so that it reflects light. That is, opposite the window or a light source. This makes your living room appear brighter, friendlier – and larger.

5. Keep things tidy

A very important point: too much clutter makes the room appear chaotic and restless – and we have absolutely no room for that in small rooms. So make sure that you leave as little as possible on the surfaces and put items such as cell phone charging cables, tissues or pieces of paper away as soon as possible instead of leaving them open on the table or a chest of drawers. This is where storage space comes into play again: drawers, boxes or other smart pieces of furniture are your best friend for keeping the living room tidy, calm and homely – and making it seem larger.
