More than five months have passed since the tragic mass assault on the border of the Spanish exclave of Melilla. At that time, around 1,700 migrants tried to climb the six-metre-high fence between Spain and Morocco in order to get into the European Union. The majority did not make it, but were pushed back by force by security forces or taken back. At least 23 people died in the onslaught and hundreds were injured. This was after a mass panic broke out.
