In La Bouilladisse, a town located about twenty kilometers from Marseillemany residents have been without Internet since December 20, the fault of cable theft.
La Bouilladisse, a charming Provençal town of 6,000 souls, has been partly plunged into digital darkness for ten days due to an act of vandalism which affected the Orange network. Neighborhoods such as Le Pigeonnier, La Chapelle and Les Boyers are affected, which spoils the end-of-year festivities for the locals, who leave room for more than legitimate discontent. In addition, the town hall announced a resolution on December 26 while today, the problem persists.
Cable theft which leads to a shutdown of fixed Internet, and which also disrupts mobile connections
Clearly, each region has its own internet connection failure these days. But what is happening at La Bouilladisse? It’s simple, since December 20, 2023, many residents have been faced with a total loss of their internet connection. The most annoying thing about all of this is that despite the promise of a rapid restoration of services, the first repair initially planned for December 26 did not resolve much, leaving subscribers without access to the digital world.
The town hall, as indicated by our colleagues from Provence, confirmed that the problem was the result of a cable theft that occurred on December 20. The Grand Sud-Est branch of the historic operator Orange indicates that the damage is significant. They affect not only internet speed, but also the mobile telephone network in various places in the municipality.
Obviously, as the days pass, the lack of clear information and visibility on the schedule for restoring connections annoys and irritates residents. “ We are constantly told that this will be resolved before being postponed », exclaims an indignant resident.
A gradual return to normal, only starting next week
While the transition to the new year is imminent, residents now fear that the situation will continue, impact those who telework as well as businesses and other activities in the municipality. Communication problems with cell phones also highlight safety concerns, especially for people with medical problems.
Orange, for its part, confirmed the order for replacement equipment and promises a gradual return to normal from next week. The operator still prefers to warn: he invites residents to be patient, adding that customer-by-customer connections will take time due to the extent of the damage.
While La Bouilladisse hoped to start the new year unhindered, the cable theft created major complications. Residents are impatiently awaiting a return to normal, to finally turn the page on these celebrations like no other.
