Internet fraud – investment advisors cost Carinthians 10,000 euros

A Klagenfurt family fell victim to cybercrime. More than 10,000 euros are gone thanks to supposed investment advisors.

A 69-year-old woman from Klagenfurt and her husband, who is also 69, became aware of investment opportunities on the Internet in December 2021 through an advertising video. There was telephone contact with an alleged investment advisor, who persuaded the couple to invest an amount of 250 euros. When the two decided in February 2022 to have the invested money paid out, the alleged advisor informed both that to Another transfer is necessary to process the payment. The two did so, but there was no payment. Access to the account was also granted. The couple was then contacted by another supposed advisor, who offered to help. To do this, however, she would need access to the couple’s computer. Instead of the help offered, further sums of money were debited from the couple’s account through remote access. Damage of over ten thousand euros was incurred.
