Intersport unveils a new adventure electric bike at a totally insane price


Intersport is investing in the gravel bike category, we’ve known it for a few days, but the French company surprises us with an electric E-Gravel version at a great price.

Just a few days ago, Intersport showed us its new 2024 products, including an electric cargo bike and Oze electric scooters. On the sidelines, carbon gravel muscle bikes also appeared in the new catalog. But the house brand had also earlier unveiled an electric gravel, now available.

An electric gravel bike that aims for value for money

Unlike the longtail arriving a little late on Decathlon, this Nakamura E-Gravel takes its enemy No. 1, Btwin, by surprise. A road bike adapted for off-road, it attacks a segment starting around 3,000 euros among specialist brands. Thunderclap, the main promise is the price under 2,000 euros, exactly 1,999 euros for this electric gravel. Intersport is therefore giving us the e-MTB trick again with the E-Crossover XV.

The Nakamura E-Gravel surprises, because it is capable of offering one of the largest engines on the market. Its E-Power Mid central block delivers a maximum torque of 80 Nm to the crankset, certainly equivalent to around 50 Nm to the rear hub in intermediate gear. Since we’re talking about that, the Shimano GRX group is officiating with its RD-RX812 11-speed rear derailleur with 11/42 teeth Deore cassette.

Regarding autonomy, the 460 Wh battery is housed in the diagonal beam, removable and rechargeable, providing around 100 km of theoretical autonomy according to our estimate. Shimano 160mm hydraulic disc brakes combine with ST-RX600 levers, integrating 700x19C wheels shod on 700x38C (28 inches) Chaoyang Gravel tires. These are classic tires, but gravel is also compatible with tubeless.

Classic style, auto and connected mode

As for the style, it’s typical Nakamura: the E-Gravel is dressed in a unique color, here green-blue, with a huge logo of the brand. Integrated into the frame, the black color of the battery stands out with the rest. For its part, the fork adorned in white with the E-Century name does not seem to reflect that of the muscle models.

The latter is made of aluminum like the frame, while the welds seem very visible and the wiring not integrated. At this price, you shouldn’t have dreamed either. However, the weight data is missing, which we hope is under 20 kg. For a gravel bike, even an electric one, it’s the least you can do.

On the handlebars, sits the electric assistance control screen. Common to other urban VAEs or VTCs, this console, certainly practical and clearly readable, is not the most aesthetic or aerodynamic for a gravel bike. However, you can control the 4 assistance modes, including an automatic “Smart”, all connected to the Naka E-Power application.

Available at a price of 1,999 euros, the Nakamura E-Gravel is available in three sizes: S, M and L. It is available online on the official Intersport website, delivered to your home or collected from retailers.
