This Monday, April 4, Agnès Soral arrives in Plus belle la vie in the role of Charlotte Gauthier, the mother of Élodie. For Télé Star, she talks about her arrival in the series and what awaits her character.
were you looking More beautiful life before you were offered a role?
It’s the favorite series of my mum, who is 85, because it deals with many social issues around which we often have great conversations. And it’s pretty crazy because one day, I said to myself “It would be so nice to be in his favorite series!”. The next day, my agent told me that a role could correspond to me. I thought it was an amazing synchronicity effect, so I went through the tests with little belief, and got the part. I was very happy.
You play as Charlotte, Élodie Castel’s mother. When you were offered the role, what did you like about her?
I love that it’s a grandmotherly role. I thought it was a good way to enter the third act of my career.
Tell us about your character…
Charlotte has a strong temper. She is an intelligent woman, very directive. She has big flaws and unparalleled bad faith, which makes her comical. He’s a character very different from me so I worked on him with great pleasure. I got along very well with Anne Decis. To play people who argue, you really have to like each other!
Why does Charlotte land at the Mistral?
She absolutely wants to bring her grandchildren back to her daughter. She can’t stand that her son-in-law (Bastien Castel, editor’s note) is no longer with her daughter (Élodie Castel) and her ultimate dream is to recompose the family far from the Mistral.
Will she do everything to break up Bastien and Luna?
Not necessarily, but she will try to take care of her grandchildren so that Luna doesn’t get too close to them. Above all, she must not raise them.
Charlotte will obviously frequent the Castels a lot. Will she make other friends at the Mistral?
The narrative arch is quite short, so not really. But I would like her to meet more people! May be later ?
Would you like to return regularly to the series?
I wouldn’t mind! I will be at the theater this summer but afterwards, I am open to any proposal. Plus, we can take Charlotte just about anywhere. She is fearless! I think More beautiful life writes interesting roles for women, especially for women my age. And I would like to play a little more with Sylvie Flepp and with Laurent Kérusoré. He was one of my students when I accompanied actors when they were just starting out.
You mentioned your plans for the theatre. Can you tell us a bit more about this?
I play at the Avignon festival, this summer, in the adaptation of the book Assize newspaper of Janine Bonaggiunta, the lawyer who defended women who killed their husbands so as not to die themselves. She notably represented Jacqueline Sauvage. She is what I call a “modern saint”. She fights for justice to be done differently. This is a subject that fascinates me a lot.
