INTERVIEW. Mark Grossman (The Young and the Restless): “I put a lot of pressure on myself taking over the role of Adam”

Friday March 18, 2022 in The Fires of Love (TF1, 11 a.m.) Adam is alive and back… with a new face! Exclusively, meet Mark Grossman, the fourth actor to play the ugly duckling of the Newman family…

Télé Star: Did you feel pressure on your shoulders taking over the role of Adam in The Fires of Love ?

Mark Grossman: Absoutely. I am the fourth to play this role and I put a lot of pressure on myself because I knew that the actors before me had done a fantastic job. I was also aware of the importance of this role for the show and the fans.

Did the public welcome you when you arrived in 2019 (a three-year distribution gap exists between France and the United States, editor’s note)? What about the cast and crew as well?

The fans have been awesome! I enjoyed it very much, people reached out to me on social media and were very welcoming. The cast and crew were equally wonderful. It’s a real family, they supported me whenever I had a question or needed help. I owe them a lot because I was running everywhere when I arrived, I had a ton of things to manage.

What do you like and dislike the most about your character?

Adam is very determined and intelligent. My least favorite thing about him is the fact that he can hold a grudge and can’t get over it… He can show compassion, love and empathy, and then be just as cold and bitter. We can go anywhere with Adam!

Is Adam a fun character to play?

Yes, because he’s a very complex guy… The dynamic with his family, being the black sheep of the Newmans while wanting their love that he never had, is very interesting. There’s also his relationships with the women in his life, Sharon and Chelsea, and with his son… There’s a whole bunch of potential storylines and it’s been great so far!

Do you think Adam and Sharon (Sharon Case) are made for each other?

Sharon was Adam’s first love. They lived a beautiful love story. She understands him like no one else. They have a deep connection. But it’s not easy because there is another great love in Adam’s life: Chelsea. He loves them both for different reasons… We’ll see if Chelsea comes back but there is in any case a real love and understanding between Sharon and Adam.

What is your relationship with Amelia Heinle (Victoria), Joshua Morrow (Nick) and Melissa Ordway (Abby) who play your siblings in The Fires of Love ?

They are amazing and so much fun! It’s great to work with Joshua, he’s a very funny guy. Amelia is wonderful, we have truly developed a brother-sister relationship. Melissa is the one I’ve toured the least with but I love it when it happens. I honestly hope we have more scenes together in the future. I love them all as a person, they have always been very supportive of me.

How did you feel about meeting and playing opposite Eric Braeden (Victor) a lot?

What an honor! It’s an icon. I was very nervous and intimidated knowing that I was going to work with him to play his son… He’s great and helped me a lot. In any scene, he is always there, present, with you. It’s the great Victor Newman! Eric is a golden man, we have a lot of fun.
