Friday April 15, 2022, the jurors and viewers of Mask Singer discovered Pierre Palmade in the costume of the Cosmonaut! Eliminated during the third prime of the show, the famous comedian confided in Télé Star on his experience, the choice of his costume as well as his projects.
What prompted you to participate in the third season of the show?
It was last July, and then I was bored, but I was bored to death! There was no stage, there was no theatre. I had no theater project, I had no TV project and I was looking for something to do. I said to myself : ‘What can be exhilarating to do?‘ I said to myself that TV games can sometimes be not degrading, but sometimes you can be more ridiculous than funny. And there, Mask SingerI said to myself : ‘Hey, that’s funny! It’s funny and if I ever ask that my costume not be too ridiculous, that it be a nice elegant costume, I am willing to embark on the adventure!‘ And here I am ! They were adorable, respectful… I felt very respected!
You performed Space Oddity by David Bowie, If you were there by Louane, Le temps qui court by Alliage… Why did you choose these titles?
I didn’t know I would be able to do it, but David Bowie is Space Oddity, this song is amazing! I said to myself : ‘If I ever manage to follow in Bowie’s footsteps, that’s class!‘ And I know in songs that are pretty and slow, I can have a voice that can be a bit naive and pretty. I realized that at Les Enfoirés! As much as if I ever push hard, I have a not very pretty voice from Claude François, a little hoarse. When I ask myself a little, it’s a little more candid and it’s nice to hear.
You’re not too disappointed not to have been able to sing the other songs that you had worked on with the coaches of the show?
Yes ! I do not hide from you that at the beginning, we say to ourselves: ‘Olala to put on this costume several times, provided that I am unmasked quickly.‘ And finally, no. I would have liked to sing the others, I would have returned to several bonuses. In addition, I’m someone, I like winning, I like winning in general so I got caught up in the game. I got caught up in the game, but this Jarry, who I can’t blame because he is a fan, he recognized me. It’s flattering, but then it bothered me! The others, it was not easy for them! Jarry, he recognized me because I know he loves my work and he referred the others and they only left me three times.
Was singing alone on stage a dream for you?
After fifteen years of Les Enfoirés, I had a little fun singing in costume. I tasted that a little, it reminded me a little of that, but it was a privileged moment when you have the right to sing, when you have permission to be the singer. I’m mainly interesting when I’m funny, but for my personal pleasure, there, I had the authorization to do the singer so it was very pleasant.
The Cosmonaut costume, did you choose it?
I was offered two or three of them and as soon as I heard Cosmonaute, I saw a suit of light, elegance, fluid movements, a little slow as in weightlessness. I thought everything was going to be chic! I don’t want to have to dance in a banana or in a pig. I find it very funny for those who like it, but I wanted to be chic.
What did you think of the jury’s proposals when they tried to find out who you were?
It’s weird, paradoxically, we’re flattered to be so recognizable with our layers of disguise, but at the same time, I wanted to postpone the deadline. I was counting on Kev Adams, who didn’t seem convinced it was me, not to unmask me right away. Jarry is my friend in life, but was my worst enemy in this game.
An anecdote on the set of Mask Singer ?
The costume was something quite heavy to wear. I’m claustrophobic so in this helmet I had asked for at least three fans. Already only in a motorcycle mask, so I’m freaking out! And then it requires such an organization… Let us pick you up at home, masked… We have the impression of being taken by kidnappers! Even the driver in the front shouldn’t talk to you, we should talk to each other by saying things on slates… It’s damn good! It’s very exciting !
You have been friends for many years with Muriel Robin and Michèle Laroque… What did they think of your performances? Did they contact you?
We haven’t debriefed yet! I see Michèle presently at Daily and we’re going to talk to Muriel because tonight our TV movie is showing. I don’t know yet if they have seen me. There are many friends who called me to tell me that they had recognized me and others… Chantal Lauby sent me a little message to tell me that she had found me very moving. I was quite happy! It was funny that the comedian in me was going to play a game and the word that came up was ‘moving‘, so much the better! Age does that! And my side in the moon, I was able to assume it completely! Because it’s true that I’m better off in the moon than on Earth in general.
TF1 will broadcast the fiction piece They love each other tonight… Well, almost. How did you choose the personalities who took part in this project?
I was helped a lot by the production! We dreamed big, we imagined the duos, we called them and 90% said yes. Me, I took care of poaching Carole Bouquet because I absolutely wanted to make a couple with her. It was above all a way of showing that for once, it was not a tribute to Palmade and Laroque, it was a tribute to the text that had not aged. It’s almost a tribute to the writing of Muriel Robin and Pierre Palmade. I am very proud to have done something cult in my life. It’s the others who say it so I’m happy.
Today, what are your projects?
I am writing a play for the start of the school year because I sorely miss the theater. I called some friends, former members of my troupe, to find out if they were free at the start of the school year to play a play and they said yes. I also look forward to the release of the Large Restaurant 4. It will be a mix of generations! Before, I invited many artists older than me and that I idolized. There, I invited a lot of artists younger than me, the younger generation. We can really expect a mix of generations who play the game of getting into my world, in my words, in my phrasing, in my humor… It gives something quite elegant! Me, I like it when humor is associated with the word elegant.
