INTERVIEW. Roman Doduik: this enormous sacrifice he made for Dancing with the Stars

This Friday, February 16, TF1 kicked off the 13th season of Dancing with the Stars, in which comedian Roman Doduik takes part. He speaks to Télé Star about his apprehensions, his dream of participating in this program but also the sacrifice he made to be at the top on the dance floor.

He is one of the candidates of this 13th edition of Dance with the stars. However, this Friday February 16, TF1 viewers did not not really been able to get to know Roman Doduik. Like last year, this season’s 12 candidates are split into two groups. It is therefore next Friday, February 23, that Roman Doduik will truly take his first dance steps alongside his partner, Ana Riera, the winner of Who will dance with the stars. Before knowing the identity of his dancer, he was hoping for someone particularly “patient and tolerant“.”Because when I’m nervous, I make a lot of jokes. It can be fun for 15 minutes but it’s probably much less so over 6 hours of training“, he admitted to us. Meeting with a touching comedian who did not hesitate to get rid of a very bad habit to be on top on the DALS floor.

Télé Star: Did you hesitate to participate in Dance with the stars ?

Roman Doduik: Not for a single second. I’ve been a fan of this show for a very long time. For me, it’s a childhood dream to participate. I’m not necessarily a fan of the discipline itself but it goes beyond dance. We surpass ourselves, we put ourselves in danger, we push our limits. That’s what I’m looking for. That’s what I loved to see. My dream was to be Rayane Bensetti, to do somersaults and take off my t-shirt like him. Well, I hope I don’t take off my t-shirt and I don’t do somersault either.

Roman Doduik: “A smoker for 10 years, I quit for Dancing with the Stars”

Have you prepared yourself physically for this adventure?

I started preparing four months ago, when I didn’t even know if I was going to do the show or not, by quitting smoking and doing some jogging and some weight training. I didn’t want to appear “naked” on the show. I had been smoking a pack a day for ten years. I stopped over three weeks by reducing the number of daily cigarettes.

Why did you start quitting smoking if you didn’t even know you were going to do DALS?

In fact, I asked to be cast. When there were still 25 potential candidates for only 12 places, I was told that I had a chance of being included. I was in the “hot seat”, I could be ejected at any time. I told myself that if I had a chance of being in the casting, I had to prepare. It’s the best decision of my life. I made a real mental and physical transformation. So much so that, for me, I have already won the show!

Roman Doduik: “I’m not comfortable with sensuality and closeness”

Do you have any apprehensions about participating in this show?

Above all, it’s a lot of fun but I admit to having apprehension around everything related to sensuality and proximity. I’m not very comfortable with that. For any dance, you have to hold the dancer’s hand, put my hand at the level of her shoulder blades… But I don’t touch people’s shoulder blades like that! We do not know each other. You ask me to touch your shoulder blade, I tell you to go home! (laughs) That scares me.

Revealing yourself on the show, doesn’t that scare you?

I have a video concept on YouTube called Sans taboo. I’ve revealed everything about myself there already. I spoke about my addiction to pornography, my bisexuality, my relationship to love, to couples. I did it sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. I have nothing to hide and on the contrary, this experience on YouTube proved to me that the more sincere you are, the more you help others.

So you won’t have any problem with the letting go that this show requires?

No. Well, I don’t know how far this can go but I’m ready to reveal everything. I think I’ll even discover things about myself that I didn’t suspect. I’m comfortable on a lot of subjects but I’m sure that if you dig a little deeper, there are things I haven’t said.
