INTERVIEW. Tomer Sisley: “Balthazar does not want this child!”

The medical examiner played by Tomer Sisley returns for a season 4, with a new partner. And revelations. To be continued on TF1, Thursday March 10 at 9:10 p.m.

In this new season, Constance Labbe embodies Captain Camille Costes, Balthazar’s new teammate. Were you involved in this choice?

TOMER SISLE: I first tried to find a wig, make-up and false nails, but they kindly explained to me that I couldn’t play both roles! More seriously, it was out of the question that I was not present to give the reply during the castings. It’s a very thankless exercise, without scenery or costumes. I know what it is, I tried to make the actresses as comfortable as possible.

Have you ever had the opportunity to meet Constance Labbé?

No. Constance is love at first sight. Someone without a misplaced ego, who wasn’t afraid to follow me on improvisations. Our characters evolve in a very different relationship from the one Balthazar had with Captain Bach, played by Helen of Fougerolles.

Why did she leave the show?

These three years with Hélène have been pure happiness. It is her choice and she remains in the best position to answer your question. For my part, I think that arriving at the fourth season of a series that works very well requires not falling into the trap of rehash. In order not to disappoint, you have to be able to put yourself in danger.

Will there be other new faces?

Caterina Murino will come to play Olivia Vésinet, a referent doctor for Balthazar who, until now, behaved a bit like an almighty God in his field. Sent by the ministry, she will come to watch him, which, of course, will not please Raphaël.

The season is off to a flying start, both literally and figuratively. You who do your own stunts, did you get scared?

We can say it. Especially during a sequence in an airplane – a biplane – where I had to drop in free fall. We did the stunt twice and let’s say that the second time it was quite hot… But it’s fine, I’m alive!

Other than his deceased wife, little is known of Balthazar’s past. Will he drop the mask?

Absoutely. He will reveal hidden sides of his childhood: why he talks to the dead, how he was brought up, what are his relationships with his parents, does he have a brother, a sister, etc. He has never been so in pain as in this season. He has two, three reasons since at the end of the previous one, he got married to the woman who murdered the love of his life, who is expecting a child he doesn’t want! Not to mention the departure of Captain Bach to whom he never really revealed his feelings. He has every reason to be worse off. But the more he suffers, the more he gets a red nose.

And does Captain Camille Costes also have a few secrets?

She is indeed carrying something quite heavy, which we will discover during the season, or even in the next one. He is a character with very high stakes.

Raphaël Balthazar speaks to the dead. If you yourself had this power, who would you turn to first?

Certainly to members of my family that I didn’t have time to get to know too well. I would love to talk to my father’s parents, to have them tell me a little about his childhood, theirs, in order to discover what I carry within me to be the man I am today.
