Leni Klum in a GALA interview
GALA: What was important to you when you designed your first collection?
Leni Klum: I wanted to make sure that the pieces in my collection could become my everyday favorites and hopefully also those of many others. You can combine all parts of my collection with each other, that was very important to me. I love classic, unexcited looks that can be styled for any occasion. I love the red sweatsuit and the jeans with the matching denim jacket the most.
Did your mother also get involved in the design process of the collection?
My mum supports me in everything I do. We both love fashion, but we also have totally different tastes. The collection bears my name and that’s why I tried to do as much as possible on my own.
Your collection stands for inclusion – what can you imagine by that?
I don’t want my clothes to be only for one type of girl. I want everyone to be able to wear my things – no matter how big or small, what size or gender you are.
Do you think the fashion world is currently undergoing a change in terms of models?
I myself am 1.63 cm and prove that the fashion world is changing. And I’m really very proud to be part of this change.

How did your mother prepare you for your modeling career? Has she practiced with you in the past or gave you special tips?
“Yes, since I was five, I’ve had two to three hours of modeling lessons with mom every day. Posing, walking, everything that goes with it. No, joking around,” jokes the 17-year-old.
I’ve been accompanying my mother to her jobs since I was little, so I’m sure I copied a few things from her, but she never gave me coaching. She gives me advice, of course, but more like a mother than a momager. Before I ran the Dolce & Gabbana Show in Milan, it wanted me to practice a little. But I didn’t want to because practicing would probably have made me nervous. She trusts me and lets me do it and that’s a nice feeling.
You are bursting with confidence. What is your secret?
I have great family and great friends around me – that gives me the confidence and self-confidence to make my decisions the way they feel right for me.
