INTERVIEW. Yves Camdeborde (Mask Singer): “The hardest part was that my parents weren’t going to see me clowning around”

This Friday, April 22, at the end of the fourth episode of this season 3 of Mask Singer, the Pig was forced to unmask. Surprise: it was chef Yves Camdeborde who was hiding under this costume. He gives himself up to Télé Star.

Télé Star: The investigators are completely planted on your identity. Are you proud of it?

Yves Camdeborde: Proud, no, but it made me laugh. It’s the fault of Alessandra who, however, knows me well. She left on Vincent Moscato at 2000 an hour and was sure of herself. She didn’t budge. Probably because of the accent and I think Vincent must dance as well as me (laughs). when i sing Tennessee of Johnny Hallyday, she insists to the other investigators that it is Vincent. I would have to ask him why.

Did Vincent Moscato send you a message after your reveal?

He congratulated me through networks. Above all, my friends showed me that he had posted a message saying: “Stop, I am not the Pig”. He must have been harassed a bit and thought, “You’re getting me drunk with your bullshit, I’m telling you it’s not me” (laughs).

It’s amazing to see you on this show. What prompted you to accept?

I have a singing culture. In the Southwest, almost every meal ends with a beautiful song. Dad adored Mariano so when we were in the car, it was Mariano and Edith Piaf all the time. And in the third half of rugby, we also sing. The production offered me to participate in full confinement. That was all I had to do. Especially since it’s funny, childish and with self-mockery. Normally, I would have declined for lack of time.

Will Yves Camdeborde be a juror of the MasterChef of France 2?

Were your loved ones surprised to find you in this costume?

It’s a frustration because I had no right to say it. The worst is my parents who are both 90 years old. I had a hard time telling myself that they weren’t going to see me clowning around. But I recorded my passages and sent them on Sunday. They had a good laugh. My wife and children didn’t know either. During filming, I was confined to the Vaucluse so I told them to have to go up to Paris to see if everything was going well at the restaurant. It was during the broadcast that it became difficult. I couldn’t watch it as a family because we don’t usually watch it. The hardest in Mask Singer, is not to tell his relatives when it’s a delusional thing that I would have liked to share. This is the big downside of this game.

You have also caused a huge laugh in the production.

I almost peed on myself. I did my Fosbury back on this mattress, I couldn’t take it anymore. I had a stomach ache from laughing. I knew it was going to be so lame and completely ridiculous (laughs). Me, I got married. I won’t do it again but what did I laugh. They allowed me to have some positive oxygen in this context which was not easy.

Have you tried to play the investigators?

The only ones I saw performing were the ones I was up against in battle. The one I think I recognized instantly is the Tree: Gilbert Montagné. During our first duel, I said to myself that I knew this beautiful voice. That he was a professional. And when the investigators talked about Gilbert Montagné, it clicked.

You were sworn to MasterChef. Will you stack up for the new version of France 2 ?

(Laughs) The composition of the jury was to be formalized last Wednesday, it should finally be the case next Wednesday. I’m going to give you a Norman answer: if ever someone offered it to me, I would be very happy to do it again. I keep an unforgettable memory. I was very good friends with Sébastien Demorand [également juré de MasterChef, décédé en 2020, ndlr]we were really close so what I experienced with him during those four years was magical. Top chefit’s haute couture, excellence, it really represents a part of our profession. MasterChef, it’s closer to my values of simplicity. It’s less demonstrative and more everyday cooking. It is something that touches me and resembles me. I kept in touch with about thirty candidates who are all in the business, that’s also what is beautiful. If I can accompany them as well as possible and make them experience what I had the chance to experience, I say so much the better.
