With the “Intimate Enemy” survey, broadcast Wednesday evening in the “Infrared” box, France 2 gives voice to victims of revenge porn. People whose lives have been shattered after intimate images leaked onto the internet and to their loved ones, often by a former lover out for revenge after being spurned.
They are called Samira, Maëlle, Sophia, Charlotte or David. Their lives changed the day very intimate photos and videos were posted on the Internet and sent to their loved ones. It’s called “revenge porn”. All have agreed to recount this public humiliation and its devastating consequences in a documentary broadcast Wednesday evening on France 2. Marie-Christine Gambart, the director and co-author of this documentary with Emilie Grall explains to Europe 1 how she obtained the confidence of these victims to make them talk (sometimes openly) about this major trauma.
The delay of French justice in the face of a phenomenon
“Emilie’s approach was to appeal to associations. Unfortunately, there are still few today who help victims of revenge porn, porn disclosure”, regrets Marie-Christine Gambart. “They directed us to lawyers, who themselves directed us to people whom we had to contact and convince to come back in front of a camera, this time to restore a form of damaged dignity”.
In addition to recounting the devastation caused by these digital rapes, the film talks about the delay of justice on this growing phenomenon. “Justice must take the measure of the gravity of the facts. It is an act of massive destruction in the lives of the people who are victims of it. Women, 90%”, recalls the director. “It’s time to take all this into account, by being (I hope) more effective than what is done in terms of rape. When you are a victim of rape, 10% of the complaints are successful. So imagine digital rape. Nobody cares! It’s dramatic.”
