“Inventing Anna”: Here is the amount received by Anna Delvey for the rights to the series

“Inventing Anna” tells the story of Anna Delvey, née Sorokin, a supposedly wealthy German heiress who joined New York’s elite and defrauded many people. To be able to tell this story, Netflix had to pay adaptation rights to Anna Delvey herself.

If the Netflix mini-series is based on the press article “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” (literally: How Anna Delvey tricked New York partygoers), written by American journalist Jessica Pressler, the platform -streaming form also had to pay money to the scammer herself.

Indeed, to be able to tell, in a fictional way, the story of Anna Delvey, Netflix had to pay her no less than 320,000 dollars (about 280,000 euros) revealed Insider. Currently in prison for several counts, including fraud, theft and swindle, Anna Delvey has not actually received the full amount.

Priority to debt repayments

You should know that a particular law is in force in the State of New York: the “Son of Sam” law. The latter prohibits a criminal from profiting from his crimes. Anna Delvey is no exception to this rule.

She could not immediately receive the rights paid by Netflix and the production company Shondaland (which also produces “Grey’s Anatomy”, “How to Get Away With Murder”, “Scandal” or even “The Bridgertons Chronicle” ), because the judge had blocked her accounts since May 2019.

However, the sum was finally released in order to allow Anna Delvey to repay all her debts and pay compensation. Thus, 199,000 dollars were used to reimburse the various defrauded banks, 24,000 dollars to pay his fines and 75,000 dollars to pay his lawyers’ fees.

She thus remains with 22,000 dollars on the rights she has received, knowing that the lawyers’ fees may be higher once the legal proceedings are over.
