Investigation opened after the death of a man lynched near Nice


A resident of L’Escarène, a village in the Alpes-Maritimes, succumbed to his injuries after being lynched for a mysterious charge of burglary.

MWednesday October 12, Jérémy Dasylva, 39, and his wife Olivia, go to Nice. They return separately to L’Escarène, the village where they live, after a small argument, says Nice morning. In the evening, Olivia is looking for her companion in the village when a friend calls her and tells her that he is being assaulted. She runs up and discovers her companion on the ground, injured. Taken to hospital in Nice, he succumbed to his injuries two days later.

A judicial inquiry has been opened, the investigation entrusted to the research brigade of the Nice gendarmerie, learned Agence France-Presse (AFP) on December 3. According to a police source, the gendarmerie was called on October 12 at 8:35 p.m. for a burglary. An hour later, a new call informs them that “the presumed suspect has been arrested, neutralized by residents”. It was actually Jérémy Dasylva.

A “man hunt”

What happened between these two calls to the police? “The lady shouted, residents arrived. Some had dogs, they threw at least one of them at the victim, who was beaten in the kindergarten, then again elsewhere, ”explains the police. A witness to the scene recounts facts similar to Nice morning “Several people, young people, are behind the manhunt. There was one who had two dogs, he hit the young man. »

Jérémy’s partner was told that he had stolen a “bank card and 45 euros” from a lady. But “nothing was found” on him, hammers Olivia, who assures that when she found him in the hospital, he told her “that he had not stolen anything”.

“At this stage, we confirm the opening of a judicial investigation of the head of willful violence resulting in death without intention to give it. No indictment has yet taken place,” he told Nice morning the deputy public prosecutor of Nice, Jean-Philippe Navarre. The gendarmerie seized CCTV images of the street where the attack took place. According to a source close to the investigation, one of the attackers was identified and located abroad.

Jérémy’s partner also filed a complaint against several people she identified at the time of the attack: “I saw them, all these young people, she told RTL. They all know me in the village and they all said to me: “Olivia, if we knew he was your boyfriend, we would never have hit him”. »
