Fire alarm Wednesday night on the Spitalberg in Klagenfurt. Two islands of garbage 20 meters apart were ablaze.
Residents noticed the fire in the hollow path on the Spitalberg in Klagenfurt at around 9:20 p.m. and used fire extinguishers to keep the fire at bay until the Klagenfurt fire department arrived. “A good dozen fire extinguishers were used,” reported operations manager Wolfgang Germ. However, the garbage islands were destroyed by the fire. But 17 men were able to prevent it from spreading to the building. Was it arson? Now the police and fire investigators are investigating. “It is suspicious that two garbage islands are burning at the same time,” emphasized Germ. Let’s hope there isn’t another arsonist on the loose. Garbage containers had already burned at the beginning of January. But hot ash was probably the reason for the fire.
