Ioniq 6, Hyundai’s most enduring electric Streamliner sedan

Increasingly invested in electric vehicles, the South Korean Hyundai reveals a little more about the Ioniq 6, a Streamliner sedan that gives pride of place to autonomy and aerodynamics, with 610 km of autonomy. WLTP and a Cd of only 0.21.

Alongside the Ioniq 5, a 100% electric SUV, Hyundai is preparing to launch the Ioniq 6, a Streamliner sedan taken from the Prophecy concept, cut to swallow up the miles and betting as much as possible on electric efficiency. As the launch of this new South Korean electric car is fast approaching, Hyundai is revealing some information on the performance of its sedan.

If the Ioniq 6 plays the card of aerodynamics by displaying a light silhouette, it nevertheless offers generous dimensions which should improve habitability. Based on the E-GMP platform, it sports a wheelbase that points to 2950 mm, while the overall length is announced at 4855 mm, for a width of 1880 mm and a height culminating at 1495 mm, all placed on 18 or 20 inch alloy wheels.

On the battery side, Hyundai offers two configurations, offering a useful capacity of 55 kWh or 77.4 kWh. The larger battery can be paired with two powertrains, either single-motor propulsion or dual-motor all-wheel drive. The top-of-the-range version thus claims a cumulative power of 239 kW (325 hp) for a torque of 605 Nm, performance which should allow it to reduce the 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.1 s.

Combined with the 18-inch rims, the 55 kWh battery and the single motor on the rear wheels, Hyundai announces an electricity consumption of 14 kWh/100 km (WLTP estimate), which would allow the Ioniq 6 to be among the cars most efficient electrics on the market.

Thanks to the E-GMP platform, the “Electrified Streamliner” from Hyundai comes standard with an 800 V charge, allowing it to charge its batteries from 10 to 80% in just 18 min. It also allows 400 V charging without an adapter as well as V2L reverse charging, just like the Ioniq 5.

Finally, the new electric Streamliner sedan is the first of the brand to benefit from remote updates over the air (OTA), making it possible to maintain a driving experience that is always at the forefront, in particular on the features dedicated to autonomous driving, the battery or any other equipment subject to software improvement.

Huyndai has announced that the production of the Ioniq 6 will be launched at the end of 2022, which should allow us to see it land in 2023.
