iOS 14: How to conjure up widgets on your new home screen

With iOS 14, Apple now allows the use of widgets directly on the iPhone home screen. So you can install the little helpers.

What has been completely normal for Android users since ancient times, now also (finally) works for all iPhone users. With iOS 14, Apple is revolutionizing the home screen and for the first time allows real widgets that can be integrated into the user interface. Previously, it was only possible to display these interactive windows after a swipe to the left of the home screens.

With the new function, widgets such as weather, calendar, Google, news or even maps in different sizes can be placed on the home screen, which then interrupt the usual app arrangement. To do this, after a long press on a free space, select the plus symbol in the upper left corner. From the widget overview that follows, you select your window in the desired size and then place it on one of your home screens in the ideal place.

Widgets can also be stacked

In contrast to Android users, iPhone users also have the option of stacking these widgets. To do this, you simply place a window of identical size on an already placed widget. Then you can scroll through the stack. Also new: Apps that you never need can now be hidden. After another long press on a free field in the home screen, tap on the navigation points in the lower, middle area. Then you can turn individual home screens on and off with checkboxes in order to get more order in your cell phone.

The last major home screen innovation through iOS 14 is the so-called app media library. If you swipe again after your last home screen on the right side, you will find the new menu. All installed apps are displayed here according to automatically generated categories. Among other things, you can find "suggestions", "last added" or thematic clusters such as "social networks" or "entertainment".
