The American manufacturer has just delivered the fifth major update of iOS 15, which contains some interface and user experience improvements.

This is probably one of the last major iOS updates that Apple has just distributed this Monday, May 16.

A service version pending iOS 16

While the eyes of the brand’s fans are riveted on the date of June 6, 2022 and on the opening of WWDC 2022 which will see Apple present its future operating systems iOS 16, macOS 12 or watchOS 9, the manufacturer has just deliver iOS 15.5, the new version of its mobile system.

The development cycle is already well advanced, and we should not expect major new features in this umpteenth version of the iPhone and iPad system. The brand preferred to polish the user experience and added some very practical features to better manage the storage of its device.

Finer settings to manage podcast downloads

The real novelty of iOS 15.5 is to be found on the side of the Podcasts application. It is now possible to fine-tune the downloading of new episodes, podcast by podcast.

You can thus, in a new menu, ask for the automatic deletion of old episodes to keep only the most recent, or to delete them after 24 hours if you are used to listening to a daily program. Thus, no need to manually clean up your podcast lists, which quickly tended to take their ease on the poor gigabytes of your iPhone.

iOS 15.5 also fixes an issue with HomeKit that could cause automations related to user leaving or entering to fail. The Weather application inherits a button that allows you to report a problem to Apple if the conditions displayed are incorrect.

This new version of iOS is to be retrieved now from the settings of your iPhone. At the same time, Apple is offering an update for its HomePod mini, also numbered 15.5 and which now makes it possible to display the Wi-Fi network to which the smart speaker is connected.
