There will be an update for the phone again. Apple will soon release iOS 15.5, work on the latest update is complete. But owners of a Mac, iPad, an Apple Watch and an Apple TV can also look forward to it.

Update from May 13, 2022: After a good month, the development work on the latest iPhone update has been completed. Apple has published the so-called “Release Candidate” for iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 in the last few hours. So the version that Apple intended for release. The release can therefore be expected as early as next week. Apart from various security updates, the update includes the following new features:

iOS 15.5 includes the following improvements and bug fixes:

  • Apple Cash customers can now use Wallet to send and request money from their Apple Cash card
  • Apple Podcasts includes a new setting to limit episodes stored on iPhone and automatically delete older episodes
  • Fixes an issue where home automations triggered by people arriving or leaving may fail

However, there is no trace of the previously unmasked classic app from Apple, you will have to be patient here.

Apple also published the Release candidates for macOS 12.4, watchOS 8.6 and tvOS 15.5. It also became clear that the new and improved firmware with version number 15.5 will soon be available for the Studio Display as a separate update. If you want to install this, you don’t necessarily have to update to macOS 12.4 as before (source: 9to5Mac).

Apple hides hints in iOS 15.5: New classic app for the iPhone is to come

Particularly exciting within the updates for the iPhones and iPads that are currently in progress hide hints of a new app – “Apple Classical”, a complementary offering to Apple Music. Specifically, there are two suspicious lines in the code of the music app (source: MacRumors).

“Open in Apple Classical”
“Open this in the new classical music app”

Both options imply the existence of the very new app that has not yet been released by Apple, but could now be announced in the wake of iOS 15.5. Basically an open secret, because Apple has already admitted to working on it.

Classical music was not yet the focus when Apple Music was launched:

The background: In August 2021, Apple took over the classic streaming service Primephonic. Goal of the whole: Introducing a new and standalone classical music app. The user interface and the specialization of Primephonic in classical music are to be combined with Apple Music and functions such as lossless and 3D audio (spatial audio). Apple has not yet presented a detailed schedule, but development is obviously in full swing and could soon bear fruit. Of course, there’s no guarantee, it’s quite possible that “Apple Classical” will come later, maybe with iOS 16.
