The new operating system for iPhones is here. These functions of the new Apple software iOS 15 were not yet available.

Apple will release the new software for iPhone (iOS 15) and iPad (iPadOS 15) on Monday (September 20th, 7 p.m.). Come with this update tons of new features and improvements for smartphones and Co. These are the highlights:

safari

This innovation will especially please users of large iPhone models: The redesigned tab bar takes up less space and now hovers a little above the lower edge of the display. It is easier to reach there. When scrolling, the bar moves seamlessly out of the picture and reappears with a tap of the finger.

The new tab overview shows the open tabs in a grid view. This makes it easier to change.

photos

In addition to the already known information about the location and time of the photo, details such as file names, smartphone model used and camera settings can now also be linked.

The Spotlight function also uses information from photos. This allows the entire photo library to be searched for locations, people, scenes or things in the photos such as a dog or a car.

With the new live text function, mobile phone numbers, for example, can also be called from photos without having to type them in. Printed and handwritten texts are recognized.

cards

The map app has also learned a lot. For example, there is a new, detailed and interactive 3D globe with significantly improved details for mountains, deserts, forests, oceans and more.

A whole new traffic map helps to see the traffic, incidents and other details that affect the journey at a glance. Turning lanes, cycle paths, bus and taxi lanes, median strips, pedestrian crossings and much more are now also displayed. Near complex intersections, Maps even switches to a 3D street-level view.

The departure times of all public transport stops in the vicinity can be displayed at the touch of a finger. Frequently used lines can also be pinned.

When searching for a restaurant, you can filter according to the cuisine on offer, whether there is a delivery service or whether the business is currently open.

announcements

Notifications have a new look with contact photos for people and bigger icons for apps.

With the focus function, the messages are automatically filtered according to what you are doing. With the already known “Do not disturb”, nothing is displayed. Focus options for working, sleeping, fitness, playing, reading, driving or a personal focus are new. Urgent notifications from apps are always delivered immediately.

FaceTime

The web link to a video call with FaceTime can now be sent via e-mail, SMS or message on a messenger. The split screen allows websites, apps, and more to be shown in the FaceTime conversation.

With the announced SharePlay function, you can watch films or listen to music together in real time. Even pause, rewind and fast forward or jump to another scene remains in sync for everyone.

Memojis

The personalized emojis (memojis) can be adapted to the style, mood or season with more than 40 outfits. There are also new glasses, headgear and aids such as cochlear implants or oxygen tubes.

iOS 15 on iPhone 6

Older models can also be updated to the new operating system. According to the support page the models extend up to the iPhone 6. If you want to avoid the main download time, you should start at night when the servers are less busy.

It also makes sense not to simply copy over the old iOS 14 version with iOS 15. A backup in advance ensures that users can still access their devices if there are difficulties with the upload.
