iOS 17.2: what will change on your iPhone

Version 17.1 of iOS has only just been released and now beta 1 of iOS 17.2 is already on the horizon with its new features. A quick tour of the main new features of this version of the iPhone OS.

Newspaper

This is the main new feature of iOS 17.2. Presented at WWDC last spring, the Journal application is dedicated to “journaling”, this writing practice related to the diary. This app suggests content (photos, videos, locations, sports training, music listened to, etc.) to inspire writing. The app uses AI to help you keep your journal by suggesting content. And for this it is inspired by your location, the photos taken, the music listened to or even your sporting activity. Apple describes the new Journal app as a “a whole new way to appreciate life’s moments and preserve your memories“.

Apple Music

Apple Music offers two main additional features: Collaborative Playlist which allows you to invite others to participate in playlists by adding songs, changing the order of playlists, etc., and New Playlist dedicated reading “Favorites”. It is automatically generated for each Apple Music user.

Translation on the Action button

The Action button takes the place previously occupied by the famous switch allowing switching to silent mode. This Action button is a real novelty in the world of Apple. In addition to the first options available for this button, you can now add translation to it. By activating it, just press the Action button to launch the voice translator.

New weather and clock widgets

Three widgets have been added to the Weather app: Details (risk of precipitation, UV index, wind, etc.); Daily forecast (current weather conditions and daily forecast for a given location); Sunrise and sunset. For the Clock app, Apple added a new “Digital Clock” widget that displays the current time in digital format rather than analog.

Checking Contact Key on iMessage

Designed for those who face “extraordinary digital threats”, such as journalists, human rights activists and members of the government in particular, iMessage Contact Key verification allows you to authenticate the identity of the person you are corresponding with.

Tapbacks and Emoji

In the Messages application, it is now possible to choose between a Sticker or an emoji to react to a message. To do this, you must long-press on a message and choose the new option “Add a sticker”.
