The rollout of iOS 17.5 brought many interesting changes. But a bug in photos is also something to worry all iPhone owners!

This was a highly anticipated update, at least for anyone living in Europe. With iOS 17.5, Apple makes it possible for us to download applications from the internet, as a result of the new rules imposed by the European Union. But unfortunately, these innovations also came alongside a strange bug, due to which very old photos reappear as if by magic in the gallery!

Old photos resurface

Sometimes we delete photos to make room on our phone. Other times, it is also because they are slightly embarrassing images that we want to make disappear. But with iOS 17.5, it seems that this possibility is no longer guaranteed. Indeed, several Reddit users explain, after installing the update, that they saw old photos appear on their phone, even though they had been deleted for a long time.

And it can be embarrassing. One of the users indicates that they saw old nudes displayed on their iPhone that they had deleted many years before, in 2021. The problem also seems to persist, as another person explains. “ I have four photos from 2010 that reappear as the latest photos uploaded to iCloud. I deleted them several times » she detailed.

Does Apple keep our photos for life?

As a reminder, an image deleted on the iPhone normally remains on the phone for 30 days, giving a person the opportunity and time to change their mind and restore the image. It is also possible to permanently delete the image in the folder in question immediately.

However, this idea of “permanently deleting” is now in decline when we see that images deleted many years ago are suddenly coming back to haunt iPhone owners. Would Apple keep a permanent backup of all these images? And if so, are we at the start of a new little scandal?
