Anyone who has their eyes so close to the iPhone that the touchscreen could be operated with their nose will be able to point this out if they wish from iOS 17 onwards. This is how you measure your screen distance.

So that you don’t get the infamous square eyes after hours in front of the iPhone screen, Apple has come up with something for iOS 17: The smartphone from Cupertino measures the screen distance from your face and warns you if you keep the device too close to your sensitive ones organs of vision.

The whole thing works via the facial recognition of the Face ID unlocking function. That’s why measuring the screen distance only works with Apple devices on which Face ID is available and activated. Your iPhone then regulates everything else on its own using the information from your front camera.
