It’s now official, WWDC, Apple’s annual conference dedicated to developers, will take place from June 5 to 9. The event will start with the traditional Apple keynote, which will host the announcement of its new software and, perhaps, some hardware surprises. At the forefront of the announcements, we expect that of iOS 17, the operating system dedicated to the iPhone, which will succeed iOS 16, presented at WWDC 2022. It will be presented during the event, then will be provided in the form of public beta and will arrive in its final version on the occasion of the launch of the iPhone 15, expected in September.
In addition to the novelties brought by this new version of the OS, the question of the terminals eligible for an update arises. And like every year, the release of a new version of iOS will be synonymous with the end of the journey for some iPhones. With iOS 16, the iPhone 7 generation was deprived of an update, six years after its marketing. According to MacRumors sources, the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, devices sold from the end of 2017, would end their days with iOS 16, the A11 chip and the chipsets which precede it not supporting the OS. Which is not surprising, the two generations preparing to blow out their six candles… It should be noted that the iPads, which are to receive iPadOS 17 this year, would follow the same path, with the exception of the iPads Pro 10.5 and 12.9 inches under A10X Fusion chips.
iOS 17 features are still shrouded in mystery. We can logically expect that the mobile operating system will allow the link with the future mixed reality headset (itself running under xrOS) and that it will benefit from some cosmetic changes. But if there is a particularly expected option, it is the one that allows the downloading of applications from portals other than the Apple App Store.
