iOS 17 will transcribe your voice messages in writing, no need to listen to them anymore

With iOS 17, Apple will introduce a new feature called Live Voicemail, which composes a written version of voicemail messages. If you can’t listen to your answering machine right away, but still want to know what the call is about, this option is a great alternative. However, on English is compatible at present.

iOS 17 has been available in beta for a few days now, an opportunity to gradually discover the new features brought by the future iPhone operating system. It must be said that they are not lacking: between Standby mode, simplification of the unlock code or even location sharing via Messages, there will be plenty for users to do at launch. And it’s not over, since another feature also caught our attention.

You have probably already received a call when it was impossible for you to answer, as well as listen to the voicemail left on your answering machine. If you tend to be quite impatient when this happens, Apple has got you covered. A new feature, available directly in the Phone application and called Live Voicemail, will take care of transcribing the content of the voice message in question for you.

No more listening to messages on your answering machine with iOS 17

To use it, nothing could be simpler. Here are the steps to follow :

  1. When you receive a call, press the button answering machine
  2. The person on the phone will then leave a message directly on your voicemail.
  3. let Live Voicemail automatically transcribe the content of the message in writing

It’s up to you to consult it immediately, if only to find out whether you need to call your correspondent quickly or not, or to keep him warm for later. Be careful, however, there is a small problem. For now, the feature only affects messages in English. We imagine that support for French will be implemented in the future, but we still don’t know when. Note that it is also possible to deactivate the latter from Settings > Phone > Live Voicemail.
