Mark Gurman talks once again about Apple and its iPhones in the latest edition of the newsletter Power On. The tech journalist from Bloomberg shared the Californian firm’s ambitions around the next major iPhone update: iOS 18.
iOS 18, between features and design
At the beginning of last week, Mark Gurman mentioned pausing the development of iOS 18, macOS 15 and watchOS 11 for a week in order to focus on fixing bugs inherent to its various iPhone operating systems.
After this period, Mark Gurman explains that internally, Apple management would describe the next major iPhone update as “ambitious and fascinating”.
He quickly goes into detail, explaining that the objective for Apple is that iOS 18 comes out with major new features and design. In addition to this, improvements in performance and security are on the program.
We would thus be facing a real evolution for iOS. Mark Gurman also declares: “After a few years of modest iOS updates, the next version of iPhone and iPad software could be relatively revolutionary“.
As a reminder, iOS 18 should include many features boosted by artificial intelligence. This would involve, for example, the introduction of generative AI in Siri and Messages. However, the treatment would differ between iPhone models, with new AI features exclusive to the iPhone 16.
