Against a backdrop of enthusiasm around artificial intelligence, Apple was long overdue. AI capabilities should, however, find their place on the next update of the iPhone and iPad, with exclusive features reserved for the next generation of flagships from the Apple firm: the iPhone 16.
AI as a sales vector for iPhone 16?
Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg journalist very familiar with what is happening in Cupertino, recently discussed the situation around artificial intelligence at Apple. “Caught off guard” Faced with this new trend, the managers of the Apple firm have decided to bet everything on AI. This would involve a wide range of generative features, including a supercharged version of Siri.
Apple would have chosen to include new features based on artificial intelligence in iOS 18. The American firm, however, is still wondering about how to bring AI to life, either with direct processing on iPhones or via the cloud , or by opting for a mix of the two.
A first path finally seems to be emerging. The leaker Revegnus explained in a recent publication Twitter/X that iOS 18 would bring a new language model (LLM) to millions of existing iPhones through cloud-based artificial intelligence features. The iPhone 16, however, would be entitled to a notable difference: exclusive AI features processed directly on the device.
As a reminder, Mark Gurman mentioned various major developments brought by artificial intelligence with iOS 18: an overhaul of the Siri and Messages applications, with the possibility of asking complex questions or completing sentences more efficiently; automatic generation of playlists in Apple Music; or even writing and creation support tools for Pages and Keynotes software.
