Against a backdrop of the rise of artificial intelligence, upcoming smartphones and software updates are being closely scrutinized. After the Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra, boosted by an armada of AI functions via One UI 6.1, all eyes are now on Apple and iOS 18.
Expected in June during WWDC 2024, this new version of the iPhone operating system is making waves again. Mark Gurman revealed in his latest newsletter Power On the ambitions of the Apple firm regarding it. “I’m told that internally the new operating system is considered one of the biggest updates to iOS — if not the biggest — in the company’s history.”writes the journalist, remembers well informed.
Apple would thus see things big, starting with the implementation of features based on artificial intelligence. Previous reports notably speak of a supercharged version of Siri; introducing AI to Messages to answer questions and complete sentences; automatic generation of playlists in Apple Music; and generative AI in the iWork suite software or even in Xcode.
In addition to major new developments in artificial intelligence, Mark Gurman emphasizes that “many other things” will arrive on the iPhone with iOS 18. We can, for example, remember a resounding announcement made by Apple in November 2023: support for the RCS protocol in Messages by the end of 2024. Thanks to this new, iPhones and Android smartphones would benefit from more complete exchanges of messages by SMS.
While waiting for iOS 18, Apple recently confirmed the arrival of large-scale changes to iPhones in the coming weeks with the iOS 17.4 update, scheduled for March 2024.
