Apple has filed a patent for the Apple Pencil. This evokes the capture of colors present in the physical environment.

In a recently filed patent, Apple imagines a new functionality that we could discover in a next generation of its stylus dedicated to the iPad. This technology could open new doors to creativity, far exceeding the current use of the object, through digital art applications.

Capture the colors of objects around you

If we refer to the patent filed, the Apple Pencil in question would be able to detect and capture the colors of an object present in real life. Like a tool Pipette, which is found in most computer-aided drawing software and which makes it possible to copy an exact color, Apple could allow the copying of a color in its own physical environment by approaching the Apple Pencil.

Also according to the patent, recovering certain physical properties such as the textures of the materials would potentially be on the agenda. Parameters captured by the Apple Pencil would be transmitted wirelessly to the paired iPad and could be used in drawing apps such as Procreate, to name one.

An adaptive color spectrum

To ensure optimal and above all consistent color detection in all conditions, the system designed by Apple should include a feature to adjust said detection. This could adapt according to different factors, including ambient lighting, as the photo sensor does with respect to white balance. Concerning the detection of properties inherent to a material and mainly its texture, the method would be based on measurements made by projecting light at a very precise angle.

Remember, however, that to date, the concept of Apple remains at the theoretical stage and that no concrete information has been mentioned with regard to a marketing date.
