Temporarily withdrawn from the French market for more than a month, theiPhone 12 still waiting to receive its update.

It has been several weeks since the National Frequency Agency (ANFR) forced Apple to withdraw the iPhone 12 from sale due to a specific absorption rate (SAR) higher than the standards imposed in France. Promised by the Apple brand since last month, the update has not yet been deployed.

While iPhone users are waiting for the iOS 17.1 update, which will also include various improvements, ANFR tells us that the fix for the iPhone 12 is now imminent.

iOS 17.1: Apple will finally correct the SAR of its iPhone 12

A few days ago, more precisely on October 10, we learned that the developers had been able to get their hands on a beta version of the iOS 17.1 update. The media The Verge then confirmed to us that this new update would allow the iPhone 12 to see the device’s SAR go from 5.74 W/kg to 3.94 W/kg. In France, the emission of electromagnetic waves from a smartphone must not, as a reminder, exceed 4 W/kg.

On this occasion, we also learned that this corrective update should be deployed during the month of October. Now, the National Frequency Agency is providing us with more details regarding the deployment of this patch expected by iPhone 12 owners (and future buyers).

iPhone 12: the fix will be released before the end of October

Since September 12, the iPhone 12 has been banned for sale on French territory. If the ANFR affirms that the ban on the marketing of the smartphone will be in force until the deployment of the update promised by Apple, the organization nevertheless tells us that it has validated the patch and that it is on the verge to be deployed on a large scale. Here is what we can read on the official ANFR website:

Apple has developed a software update and the ANFR has validated it since it effectively brings the localized “member” SAR into compliance with the regulatory limit of 4 W/kg. This update was distributed by Apple to certain voluntary customers over the past few days (“beta testers”). The company has committed to rolling out this software update to all French iPhone 12 users by October 24 at the latest. “.

As you will have understood, this means that the Cupertino company will release its iOS 17.1 update over the next ten days. In addition to bringing various new features, the latter will also correct a rather annoying bug in the Messages application.
