At the start of the week, Foxconn therefore launched a major recruitment campaign for its Zhengzhou plant. The company offers 30% bonuses to attract more workers. The firm is looking to recruit workers as a matter of urgency. Still, it’s usually a slow season for iPhone production.
Apple would obviously have decided to rush things. The Californian brand fears that the Chinese government will decree new containment measures against Covid-19, which may slow down the production of its iPhones. For the record, several Chinese factories, in Shanghai and Kunshan, were closed for several days in March. These strict confinements slowed iPhone production for a time. Under these conditions, Apple would seek to get ahead in the event of subsequent problems.
The recruitments announced by Foxconn were also prompted by the monster success of the iPhone 13. As Apple announced during its financial results, the latest flagships in its catalog are selling like hot cakes despite the shortage of computer chips.
